To say the last 4 weeks have been crazy is an understatement.
We’ve been saving and waiting for this for 15 years (talk about patience lol). Since we bought the house in 2010, we’ve tried our best to remodel it. But life gets away from us so easily. Relaxed one weekend, vacationed another. Wooosh – 15 years go by and we finally saved enough money where we can just hired someone to do it, for once and for all.
It started with the two bathrooms. The two bathrooms that so desperately needed to be updated. It took them about 2 and a half weeks, but we now have our dream bathrooms. Midway through the first two weeks, the company we hired approached us and offered us a deal on finishing our basement, laundry room, and doing all the electrical fixes in our kitchen. It is now Thursday on week 4. They’ve completed the bathrooms 99%, the basement and laundry room looks night and day different, and they fixed the crazy wires hanging out of our ceiling in the kitchen. I’ve never loved this house more than I do now.

Tell me that’s not a dreamy bathroom. Wzrd let me take full reign on this remodel and I have to say, I’m pretty darn proud of my design and choices. I changed our guest bathroom’s shower tub to a walk-in shower. We also splurged a bit (a-lot bit) on the toilet, it is now a “smart” toilet.
I still remember the day we moved in. We were in our mid 20s’ … finally got tired of the rental life. We wanted a place of our own. We slept in the little room in the basement, then second night we decided to move out into the main area in the basement. The walls were covered with wood slates, and the carpet was a dirty maroon red. The whole basement felt old and dark, it probably hasn’t been touched since the house was built in 1981. Then the next morning we woke up with bed bug bites all over. It’s funny now, looking back; but at that moment, it was less so. That kick started the remodel, we ripped everything off the walls and the floor. We put in our first floor in that basement, then attempted at doing the dry wall. Then for the first time, we realize how “off centered” our house was. The walls were not all proper. It looked square, but it wasn’t square. We’ll soon come to realize that the whole house is “off centered”. (LOL) We slept in the basement on a couch for half a year. During this six months, we modified the bedroom and office wall, laid new floors down in the now office + bedroom-room. We moved out of the basement and into a bed in the bedroom. The basement became and remained a storage room since, until now.
Its been a long road. We never had a housewarming party back then. The house was in tethers and not really quite party material. But soon, we can finally host a get together, to proudly show off our cute little house. I’m so excited to host our first 4th of July BBQ once the basement is furnished.
