Madrid -> Barcelona

We took the train from Madrid to Barcelona. The train experience was lack luster. Madrid’s train station signage was insufficient. We almost couldn’t figure out what platform our train was at. Customer service there was no help. It was a stark difference than Japan.

The food on the train was okay. Typical Jamon Iberico, cheese, bread etc. It was good Jamon, but nothing compare to the Japanese ekiben.

After two and a half hour train ride, we arrived in Barcelona in the late afternoon. All I wanted to do is wander around with Wzrd. It had been daaaays since we had some time just the two of us. So after we checked into our hotel we took off for a small walk.

We tried to find some finger foods and get to know the area. The first place we stopped by seemed a bit like a tourist trap. It was owned by Chinese people (I could hear them talk in Mandarin.) The food was okay at best, the drinks were not worth mentioning. The second place though, which was kitty corner from our hotel was pretty good. A Limnocello Spritz, a new favorite of mine now! Also, they seem to be big on “pan con tomato” in Barcelona, it’s everywhere ! I don’t hate it though.

It was starting to get late by this point and we had been traveling all day. So we met up with Pasquale for dinner and tried to call it an early night. We ended up a ramen joint near Pasquale’s hotel, Shoronpo (Xiaolongbao). It’s a Japanese ramen place but they also had XiaoLongBao. Their ramen hit the spot though, especially after so many meals of jamon, cheese, octopus, and croquettes.

I got their wonton noods, and Wzrd got their miso ramen. Both were fantastic! Their broth was light but flavorful, it was just what we needed.
