On our last full day in Barcelona, we decided to head back to the beach and hit up this famous Paella spot, Salamanca. It was a recommendation from our taxi driver, he said the best paella in Barcelona was there. We really wanted to try it the other day at the beach, but Pasquale couldn’t get a table.
We got the Salamanca just before noon. As we stepped out of the taxi, the waiter saw us and waved us in and just seated us, even though they weren’t open for another 10 minutes. He kept meowing at us … at first I thought it was racist? But then I Googled it, apparently he was just being “playful”? It was weird to say to least. But we did see him do it to other people as they arrive later on. Still … weird.

Since we were the first to be seated, we got the best seat in the house. Unobstructed view, but still shaded. It was great for people watching while having lunch. We ordered their famous seafood paella. It was huuuuuge portions, and loaded with seafood. The rice was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. It was such a great meal. However, as a seafood lover, I was complete seafood’ out by the end of it. (LOL) At the end of the meal, they gave us these little white brown treats, it tasted like coconut cakes? and two very brightly yellow shots. We still don’t know what it is, but it tasted like rubbing alcohol. While we were waiting for our bill, another server came by and filled our shot glasses with a darker liquor, that one tasted like chocolate, molasses-y. When we paid, they asked for tip, which is not common in Europe, but we were happy to pay it since we received excellent service. They were so happy that they gave us two more shots.
After all those shots, we needed to walk off our lunch and the drinks. So we took a leisurely stroll down the Barcelona beach. The first time we came it was a Sunday, and it was packed. This time it was on a Wednesday, and it was a lot more chill, way less children running amuck.
We found a great table at one of the little drinking huts, and we sat and had a few drinks while taking in the view and enjoyed a nice breeze.

We were walking back towards the Gothic Quarter when we saw a sign for the aquarium. Wzrd mentioned he actually really wanted to go visit that, and go visit that we did. It was one of the better aquariums we’ve been to. They had many salt water tanks with beautiful corals. They also had a huge fish tank in the middle with a tunnel through the middle of it. It was super neat, and a great way to kill some time in conditioned air.
It was a great day, just the two of us, wandering.
Our last meal in Barcelona was food delivery to the hotel. (LOL) We were properly pooped by the end of the day. Between having to pack and our feet aching, we ordered some smashed burgers, it was just what we needed.
