For our grand finale in Madrid, we got smickkidy smash. (LOL)
So we finally met up with Pasquale on his last day (our second to last day). There was this food hall I walked by one of the days earlier when I was walking back from the Royal Palace. It was super busy, and had a ton of little stalls. I was intimidated to walk in by myself, and had told Wzrd about it. So we decided to meet there for lunch with Pasquale.
Mercado de San Miguel. What a cool food hall it was! It was packed just like the first time I walked by. We got some beers and tried to find a spot to sit. That was a mission, as the food hall was soooo packed it was impossible to find a place to sit. You had to snipe in as soon as you see people getting ready to get up and leave. Luckily my many years in Asia had trained me well for this. I was able to snatch us half a table with two chairs. That was as good as it was going to get.

There were all sorts of finger foods there, cheese, jamon, little open face sandwiches etc. This little fried seafood cart was the closet to our table so I got some calamaris and fried shrimp. Then I got us some fried chicken and chicken skewers. We had a few beers, met a few travelers as they rotated in and out of our other half of the table. It was a neat little place, but super crowded. Even after lunch time the crowd never died down.
We wrapped up there and were looking for drinks. So we headed to our hotels rooftop bar. The night was a blur from there …

It all started with these watermelon mojitos. They were great, refreshing and delicious. Then we moved onto hard liquor …
Some Don Julio 1942, and some Jameson …
We had a reservation for KBBQ dinner, and we had 6 bottles of Soju there …
When I say the rest of the night is a blur … I honestly don’t remember much. LOL It was a fun night though.
We were so smash by the time we got back to the hotel. I woke up mostly dead the next morning. We had to ubereats some Chinese food at 9am because I needed wonton soup desperately.
Wzrd and I didn’t recover until late afternoon. Poor Pasquale had an early flight, lol I honestly don’t know how he made it. By late afternoon, we needed to stretch our legs and get some fresh air. So we went out to do some last minute souvenir shopping. On the way back we wanted to get tacos, but the line was so so sooo long ☹️ . I was so sad we couldn’t have it one last time. Instead we swung by McDs. It was okay at best, they put cheese in the chicken sandwich, which was weird. And for our last meal in Spain, we ubereats more chinese food LOL

Honestly by this time we were pretty homesick. Having the remodel just finished two days before we left, we didn’t even get a chance to enjoy the house yet. While it had been fun in Spain, we were so ready to go home.
After having been to Amsterdam, Paris, and now Madrid and Barcelona. Wzrd and I both agreed that Europe just isn’t our kind of travel destination. We’ve come to realize that we’d much rather spend time in Asia than in Europe. While the architectures are beautiful and cities are full of history, it just doesn’t fill our travel needs. We’ve been spoiled by Japan, is what we kept saying. We were grateful for the time and experience spent in Spain, but this may be our last time in Europe for a long time.
